Anthocyanin molecules give blueberries, raspberries, bilberries, and cherries their dark pigmentation. Anthocyanins are potent compounds with a wide range of health–promoting properties,3,5,6 especially for your muscles.  And tart cherries have a very high anthocyanin content.

Improving exercise performance

Anthocyanins support exercise performance by promoting healthy blood flow and vascular function,7 supporting metabolic pathways, and inhibiting peripheral muscle fatigue.8 In a double-blind clinical trial, measurements which represent your body’s ability to use oxygen during physical performance significantly increased in athletes who took 100 mg of anthocyanin daily for 6 weeks compared to placebo.9
