What are protein supplements?
If you're an active adult, odds are you're watching your protein intake—a macronutrient essential to our health. While we usually get most of the protein we need through food sources like lean meat or plant-based protein, protein supplements can help you better meet your daily needs. Whey protein isolate vs. concentrate
There's no right or wrong "whey" when it comes to choosing a protein supplement! With whey protein, you should choose whichever type fits your needs.
Protein concentrate is the most basic form of protein and generally more calorically dense and filling. But if you're keeping an eye on your macronutrient content, choose protein isolate—it's higher in protein and lower in carbs, lactose and fat.
Whey protein powder is usually chocolate- or vanilla-flavored—great options for protein shakes or in recipes. If you're avoiding dairy, plant-based protein powder provides an alternative to whey protein supplements in the form of hemp or pea protein.

How much protein do I need?
The amount of protein you need varies by your weight, health goals and level of exercise activity. Since the Recommended Dietary Allowance for protein is about 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight, a good rule of thumb for determining your daily protein needs would be to multiply 0.36 by your weight in pounds.
