Cancer antigen (CA) 125 is a marker used for monitoring ovarian cancer
The cancer antigen (CA) 125 test is used to monitor ovarian cancer and some other cancers. Because CA 125 can be elevated in noncancerous conditions, it is not used as a screening test except by women who are at high risk of ovarian cancer.
| Cancer antigen (CA) 125 is a protein present in normal ovarian tissue and appears in the blood when protective barriers are destroyed, as occurs in cancer or endometriosis. This test is a tumor marker for monitoring disease progression and reoccurrence in ovarian cancer. CA 125 can also be detected in other cancers such as pancreas, liver, colon, breast, and lung. Instructions Fasting is not required for this test. Take all medications as prescribed. Note Cancer antigen 125 assay value is not intended to be used as a screening test.
