Sodium butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) postbiotic that nourishes the cells of the colon, supports digestion and strengthens the gut lining.

Butyrate is made in the lower colon by probiotic bacteria and taken up by cells known as colonocytes, which line the colon, becoming a food for these cells.
